Biography :
* At the time of the 1881 census, there were 6 children (aged 2 yrs to 14 yrs). Also in the house were:-
* Catherine McKENZIE, recorded as a servant, unmarried, born Cawdor (I can't read her age). She was possibly a close relative. But who was she?
* Margaret FINLAYSON, recorded as a visitor, widow, formally laundress, born Glen Urquhart, about 1812. She would have also been a close relative :-
> Not his mother Margaret Finlayson, because she was born in about 1793 in Knockbain.
> Not his sister Margaret, because she was born about 1943 in Knockbain
> Not his aunty Margaret, because she was born about 1823 in Knockbain
> Finlayson was probably her married surname (she was a widow) - so she might have been married to a Mr Finlayson.
> So who was she?.

Occupations : Teacher in a public school (ref : 1881 census)

Residences :
* 1841 census - Craigton Cottage
* He was not included with the rest of the family in the 1851 census when he was aged 14 yrs. Had he left home? Maybe working somewhere? Later he was a teacher, so maybe in 1851 he was at a boarding school for further education.
* 1861 census - no record - not with family so might have been working away from home, maybe as a school teacher in another town. He was 24 years old but probably not yet married as his first child was born about 6 years later.
* 1867 to 1874 - Nairnside - 4 children born there
* 1876 - Drakies cottage in the Parish of Inverness (ref : 1881 census)
