Also Annie, dearly beloved wife of above who died May 28th 1934 aged 70 years. Loved by all. Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord.? |

The Mutual Improvement Society [Owen] held their usual fortnightly meeting in the Institute Hall, on Monday evening. Mr. T. J. Watt (president) presided over a fair attendance of ladies and gentlemen. Three new members were proposed and accepted. A long and varied programme of music, singing, elocution, and speeches was gone through. Those who spoke put before the audience the advantages to be gained by being associated with a society of this kind. The hope was expressed pressed that the enthusiasm that had been aroused, would continue. Those who took part were :- Overture, Miss C. D. Hooper; duet, (piano), Mrs. T. J. Watt, Miss B. Ashman; recitations Messrs. L. Gordon, F. Pinkney, Jas. McLachlan, Master G. McLachlan, and Mr. J. Giles ; quartett, Mrs. TJ Watt, Miss FE Watt, Messrs. J. H. G. Black and J. Gilchrist ; songs. Miss R. J. Finlayson, Miss W. Conigrove, .and Mr.. R. J Finlayson ; speakers, Messrs. D Gordon, Jas. McLachlan, and T. J. Watt A very pleasant evening was spent. The next meeting will be on Monday, July 19. The subject will be a manuscript magazine.

Mock banquet: The Mutual improvement Society held its usual meeting on July 25 last, when the evening's programme took the form of a mock banquet. After the business was concluded Mr RJ Finlayson was voted to the chair. The following toasts were submitted:-
* 'The King' ably proposed by Mr J McLachlan, which was enthusiastically drunk with musical honors
* 'The Parliament' by Mr Donald Gordon, responder Mr James McLachlan,
* 'Town and Trade of Owen' by Mr John Dillon and Mr B Ashman:
* 'Our Society' by Mr S Fitzgerald and Mr R Richards
* 'Football and Tennis Clubs' by Mr Recce and Mr S Lacy
* 'The Ladies' by Mr RJ Finlayson and Mr Pinkney
* 'The Press', by Mr SJ Watt and Mr F Bradford.
Refreshments were provided by the lady members and others contributed to the enjoyment with music and song.

| Church activities : Georgetown : 22nd April 1913 - The 39th anniversary of the Baptist Church was held on Sunday, April 20, when Mr. Donald Gordon, of Owen, preached to large congregations. Anthems by the choir were a feature of the services. On Monday evening the celebrations were continued, when a largely attended public meeting was held, over which Mr. James Read presided. He was supported on the platform by Mr. Gordon and the pastor (Rev. W. W. Baird), both of whom delivered inspiring addresses. A fine musical programme was presented, and then an adjournment was made to the lecture hall, where supper was provided. Both financially and socially the celebrations were an unqualified success. The Gordon's house is on the corner opposite the bowling club (not diagonally opposite but on the right hand as you continue to go along the main street (see mud map xxxxxx)

 | 2.30 - Donald Matheson GORDON & Annie, nee McLACHLAN Donald was born near Strathalbyn in 1856. Annie was born in Bunbury in 1863. Donald worked on Annie's father's farm, Dalkeith near Owen and they lived on the farm for most of their married life, apart from eight years in Georgetown and their final years in Jameson. They were prominent in the Church of Christ in Owen. They had four children including Jeff who was born 1913 - he married Dora McLean.
