Wedding Wedding : Peggy and David were married on 13th January 1951 at the Holy Trinity Church in North Terrace, SA (ref : Faraway and Beyond 1980).
They might have had a long courtship as, in Sept 1948, Pauline was a bridesmaid and David was groomsman at the wedding of Dr Donald Anderson and Doreen Collins. (ref : The Advertiser, Adelaide, Mon 27th Sept 1948, p5). At that stage it looks like David had not yet finished his medical studies but Donald may have been a fellow student.
"Glenelg Bride for Doctor : Two hundred guests were entertained at the South Australian Hotel after the wedding today of Pauline Gordon and Dr. David Kirby. The wedding took place this afternoon in Holy Trinity Church, North Terrace. The bride, daughter of Mr. and Mrs LM Gordon of Glenelg wore a gown of white bodice had a yoke of Chantilly lace on the full skirt. The tulle bodice had a yoke of Chantilly lace forming cape sleeves edged with a frill of tulle. The high round neck was beaded with pearls. Her French tulle veil was rolled in front and held at the back with a half circle of orange blossom and she carried a sheaf of white gladiolo, tuberoses, and white roses, tied with tulle. Attendants were her sister, Jillian, Josephine Grundy, and flower girl Ameryllis Neillsen, the groom's niece. Jill and Josephine wore ?? blue tulle strapless full-skirted frocks with matching boleros and blue tulle picture hats trimmed with sprays of lily of the valley. They carried blue delphiniums and hydrangeas. Ameryllis wore blue figured organdie over tulle and a head dress of swathed blue tulle caught with blue velvet bows and carried a basket of pink and blue flowers. The groom, son of Mrs Bevan Kirby of Mount Lofty and the late Mr Kirby of Largs Bay had Ross Henderson and Vern Ploughahn? as best man and groomsman. The bride and groom will make their home at xxxx Town, where they have a flat." (ref : The Mail, Adelaide, Sat 13th January 1951, p 38)
"The Windsor Hotel in Melbourne is a popular spot. Dr. and Mrs. David Kirby, who are honeymooning there, are being entertained by Mrs. Norman McBride. who is also at the Windsor." (ref : The Mail, Adelaide, sat 27th January 1951, p 33). Mrs McBride was probably Pauline's aunty.
