| Notes for biography |
Dorothy was born in Kadina Hospital in 1925 while the family was living at Tiperra. Her childhood jobs on the farm were collecting sticks for the fire and to pushing out grain from the header after the wheat had been reaped. She went to Little Kalkabury school. The family attended the Sunnyvale Methodist church with Sunday School picnics at Moonta Bay. When Dorothy was 8 the family moved to Clare and they lived at Mills Street, then Charles Street. They attended the Salvation Army, then the Clare Methodist church. Dorothy went to Clare Primary School until aged 13 when the family moved to Wayville. Dorothy left school to help her mother run a guest house - she did cleanng, dishes, making beds and waiting on tables. She went to Youth for Christ group at Wayville and attended Bible Standard Mission. At 17 years in 1942, she attended Muirden College where she did a stenographers course. She walked from the Wayville house - she was there for about two years. In 1944 she worked at the GPO for three months and then at the Rationing Commission, then at South Australian Rubber Mills - she worked there until 24 years old. In those years Dorothy met Brian Wilson through Youth for Christ. They married in 1950 and lived at Gardner Street in Plympton. She worked at S Kidman & Co (pastoralists) as a secretary until the end of 1954. She had Barbara in 1955 and Geoffrey in 1958. The family moved to NSW in 1962 and Paul was born there in 1965. She had a part-time job cleaning a kindy. In 1972 the family moved to Western Australia where six grandchildren were born. Dorothy did some supervising at university. [2] |
