| Name |
Donald GORDON |
| Gender |
Male |
| General event |
* Eliza's father, John, died in 1869. The informant for John's death record was 'Donald Gordon, grandchild, Brahan Lodge'. Could this Donald be Elizabeth's husband? Or another Donald.
* Eliza's husband was John's son-in-law, NOT grandchild. This is unlikely to a clerical error becuase Donald was the informant so he was unlikely to be mistaken about his own relationship with John.
* Who were John's and Lizzy's grandchildren? - ie their children's children. As far as we know, they had 9 children:-
* Hugh: We know nothing about his life. There are no indications that he had ongoing connections with the family. Maybe he died early, or never married or had children.
* Ann: She never married or had any children.
* Alexander: He migrated to Australia in 1854. He had 6 children and ONE WAS NAMED DONALD - he was born in 1856. He would have been just 13 years old and living in Australia when his grandfather, John died in 1869. So this Donald was not the grandchild.
* David: He migrated to Australia in 1852. He had children but none named Donnald
* Margaret: She never married or had any children.
* James Murray (the first): He died as a child.
* James Murray (the second): We have no indications that he marreied or had any children. He died in 1873, aged 45 years. His death was mentioned on John's gravestone without referance to a spouse so it seems that he was not married.
* John (jnr) As Hugh, we have no information about him
* Elizabeth (Eliza): She had daughters born in 1862 and 1866. Even if she had a son and called him Donald, he would have been too young to be the informant in 1869.
* CONCLUSION: ???? |

About 1870 |
- Donald would have been living in 1869 (if he was the informant for the death of his father-in-law, John) but might have died around 1870 because his wife is recorded as a widow in the 1871 census.

Elizabeth ('Eliza') GORDON, b. 11 Jul 1834, Contin, Scotland, UK |
| Wedding |
We have the interesting situation where Elizabeth married someone with the same Gordon surname - and this is what her mother did. That is, two generations of Elizabeth Gordon marrying a Mr Gordon. This might not indicate in-breeding as Gordon was possibly a common surname in that area even though it was Munro and McKenzie country. |
