Caroline was born in Topsham in 1833. She was the eldest of 12 children, the daughter of William and Sarah Western. She went to work as a domestic servant at 9 years, probably after her mother's death. Her father remarried. Caroline worked in a school at 18 years. She died on 25th March 1917. [1] |
