Notes for biography MR. WALTER SALTMARSH: The death occurred recently at Milang of Mr. Walter Saltmarsh an old and highly respected resident of the district, who had resided at Lake Plains for over half a century, and had taken a keen and active part in all affairs connected with the welfare of the district all his life, particularly with sporting matters, a horse of his breeding and owning running second in Tattersalls' Steeplechase in Adelaide on the day preceding his death. He was the second son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry Saltmarsh, pioneers of the Lake Plains neighbourhood, and had reached the age of 62 years. He was unmarried. He died after a very short illness, on December 6, and was buried in the Milang cemetery on the following Tuesday, a large procession of mourners and friends following the hearse to the grave, where the Rev GA Cooper conducted the funeral rites. Mr. Saltmarsh was of a very genial nature, a warm friend, and a thoroughly popular resident, his death leaving a gap in a big circle. Much sympathy is felt for his bereaved relatives.
