| Notes for biography |
Note by Robyn Fisher: I believe Charles Maidment was born in Sedgehill, Wiltshire, England, in 1795, the son of Joshua Maidment (1767-1797) and Jane Williams (1769-1825). He was christened on 26 July 1795 in Sedgehill, Wiltshire. According to the Family Bible of his youngest daughter Julia and son-in-law Maylin Rogers, he was born in 1795 so this year of birth seems to be confirmed.
In a number of records throughout his lifetime Charles is noted as Edwin Charles or just as Charles. This causes some difficulties and confusion particularly with son, Edwin Charles.
Also the surname is recorded as variously as MAIDMENT, MARCHMENT, MAIDMONT and MARCHMANT.
